Nova Scotia

THE LIGHTHOUSE AT PEGGY'S COVE

I think that if you ever get a chance to go to the east coast and see all these amazing places, you will be blessed....

So, from "the gentle island" of PEI to the quaint area of Halifax around Peggy's Cove and Lunnenburg.

I guess that when you wake up in the morning and get to look out at this.............................

As you can see it was a little cloudy this morning but by the time we got to Peggy's Cove (just past the monument for Swiss Air 111) it had burned off enough and was very warm and enjoyable.

This is a gorgeous spot that they say is the most photographed spot in Canada. I think you will see why.

We meet up with a fellow who is a local artist and quite the story teller. (book author as well)

He was very freindly as are most people on the east coast.

This is very rugged country but very quaint as well.......

Our next stop was Lunnenburg (just past Mahone Bay) where the Bluenose and Bluenose II were built. Beautiful wooden schooners.

The town is preserved from as far back at the 1880's and full of quaint homes and docks.

These are just a few of the pics that we got today. Way to many to put on line. I hope you enjoy them and if you can get out here...WOW good for you

PEI to Nova Scotia

You can imagine how hard I was laughing when we arrived at our campsite in PEI and had to go up this loooooooong driveway.

Picture the campsite just to the left of the house at the top of the picture. The house is actually the pro shop for the golf course that was attached to the campground.

The views were stunning though.

From right to left you could see 7 bays from this vantage point......

You sure couldn't beat that view.

We headed out the next day and went up to Brackly Beach on the north side.

Very beautiful long beaches full of super fine red red sand. With dunes and red cliffs on each side.

We also went to Cavendish beach. Just to appese my little gal self. I was there when I was two and had to relive the experience tee hee

From there back to the south side at Summerside and along the coastal route back to Charlottetown. We got to see the Confederation Bridge from the east side.

Amazing bride. 13 km (9 miles) that snakes across the Northumberland Straight. It curves to help with wind and it rises up and down. The highest point being 10 stories. When I crossed it in '97 I couldn't see over the sides because I was on my bike, but this time I got to see all the straight on both sides. Being in the "bus" you have a higher vantage point. I have to admit, my mind knew that I was safe but that little devil inside me that is afraid of hieghts didn't. LOL

I got a chance to go to Anne of Green Gables National Park...cute little place. Another little girl thing I guess.....

So off to Nova Scotia next

Oh, for the love of Lobster

I had to add this one on today.....

We got to PEI today and found a beautiful place for lobster....

DR is the lobster cooking king. I added a little steak for just a a change for the palette.

Fresh PEI lobster, cooked to perfection. Sorry MOM. I had to do it. Love to all

Off exploring the island tomorow. Maybe some golf

Canada you say?

Hello from the great north!!!!

KENNEBUNKPORT VILLAGE

We are in New Bruinswick this morning and it is a little chilly here. Considering we left 80 degree weather in Maine.....

We found some beautiful area's touring around Maine. We headed for Kennebunkport in the afternoon and were treated to some wonderful old fashioned homes. They also go all out for Halloween here, decorating there homes with huge spiders all over the front of them. I imagine Julies house done like this....

Kennebunkport is awesome and with a little drive past it we found this great home located on the point facing the ocean. Gated for privacy ect.....
Litttle did we know that it is the Bush compound
LOL
The little village of Kennebunkport is gourgeous....very touristy but still very pretty

A couple weeks in Conneticut

There certainly is a lot to do in this little state. Or the surrounding ones....

We have gone to the Smith and Wesson range at the retail center in Springfield, Mass. I found that I can shoot a 9 mm alot easier than a .357

I got two on shots dead center of the target while shooting the little semi-auto. It was fun. Funny though Daniel doesn't want me to get any bullets for my gun?????

Last weekend, we headed north-east in Connetiuct to a place called Thompson. Here is a little old mill town with beautiful old homes. Some built back in 1845.

We went up there thursday to get a spot at the Nascar race track. We were shocked to see how many people were already there and set up in the parking lots. Hundreds of them. We did manage to get a site where we could fit the two motorhomes and the trucks with a little "yard" in between them. By saturday afternoon, there was probable 1,000 trailers ect. This is a big race around here.

That night we went down to Mohegan casino and ate at a place called Big Bubba's. A big BBQ place in the casino. Of course we had great food. Daniel and I shared a plate that had everything on it. BBQ'd pork, brisqitte, chicken, sausage and ribs. Very good. Oh yeah, deepfried crawdads.

The next day we headed to Mystic Seaport. A working port. Such a pretty spot. For those people who love old wooden boats, this is the spot for you. The seaport has been kept up to resemble a seaport of the era where wooden boats were built and used.

They have a self guided tour where you can see how they build boatsl, make rope, and you can tour a actuall (restored of course) wooden tall ship used for whaling. That would be a gross job. Months at sea and rendering down the blubber from the whales!!!! Yuck. The guide said that other ships would sail two weeks out of a whaling ships way so as not to run into the smell.

Then to a little town for lunch at another great restaurant. Hot lobster grilled sandwiches.....yummy

On the way home we stopped at a fish market and bought fresh cod and scallops and shrimp (we call them prawns) . We had a big old fish fry that night and a campfire. We also have taught the gang down here how to play 10 000. The dice game. We have had a few rousing rounds of that around the camp fire.

The races were fun and scary. I voted for anyone who was from Canada....LOL

They get scary when they crash into each other. One car actually landed on top of another one. But they are so well caged in there, both people walked away.

The race track put on a amazing show of fireworks that lasted about 30 mins. Very fun.

So back to Enfield. Hanging out with DR's family, cruising around looking at the foilage. Or as they call it here, "leaf peeping" We went to soapstone mountain yesterday to engage in some "leaf peeping" of our own. This little mountain overlooks miles of the state. Your vantage is of a blanket of trees, in most every direction. Except where someone has a farm or home.

Unfortunately, this year is about the worst year they have had for the color changes. They have had a long hot summer with very little rainfall. The trees are losing their leaves before they are changing. Thus, there is alot on the ground but the trees are still mostly green.

Still for me, it is very different than at home.

We are attending a party this afternoon at DR's families home and then we will head up towards Canada tomorow.

Ciao then

A few days of rest

Well, what do you do to top that???? Niagra Falls were amazing...as you can see by the pics.

We spent a day around the Niagra Falls area and then headed east again.

We landed in a area called Schenectady, New York. A very beautiful area where you can start to see the leaves changing on the trees...

And still there we relaxed and I went to the gym (thank god...cause all I do on holidays is eat....lol)

We tried to golf one day and decided that although the course was beautiful, we sucked!!!!!!

Then off to Enfield, Conneticut to hang out with Daniels family. Once there we were on the road heading south to the coast. A lovely state park called Hammonasset beside a town named Clinton. Funny little state Conneticut is...from the top (north) to the shore is only a hour. In any direction you are only about 1 to 1.5 hours away from either state line....even so within the community where DR's family is. Just down the block is a granite state line maker. Just sitting on the property line of Mr. Jones and Mrs. Smith....very old town stuff. Big old tress. Maples, Oak and lots of vines overrunning trees and even telephone lines.

The sunset on the east coast at Hammonasset was beautiful......it made me think of home. I hope you enjoy it.

Since being here, with Steve, Daniels nephew, we have enjoyed alot of good food. Deep fried turkey (dry rubbed, not injected) at the beach at Hammonasset. Then on our way home to Enfield, the BEST pizza I have had since New York Style Pizza in Nanaimo first opened. Fresh roasted pepper, their own baked chicken and a spicy cajun sausage called Andula (i know I have spelled this wrong) So goooooood. Especially with a ice cold draught beer. Of course, their own homemade "red sauce" mmmmmmm

The next day off to Deerfeild where we spent alot of time in a place calle Yankee Candle. A huge candle factory that went crazy. Now it is like a Coombs market on crack...super big with everything inside that you can imagine.

For lunch to a great tavern (the kids can come in with us here) for amazing food. New England Seafood Pie ect....

We went into Springfield Mass to day and had lunch at a wonderful cajun restaurant. Gumbo and cajun crab cakes for me. DR had Lenny's Chicken and Sausage Cajun Ya Ya.....ya hoooooo

See girls everywhere we go....there we are LOL LOL LOL

Today we went in search of the Indian motorcycle factory and museum....

We were very sad to find out that the original factory (and museum) have been moved. The museum is now part of a couple of museums that highlites the history of Springfield Mass's industrial history. It was not open but I did get a pic of the old factory and I picked up a info sheet for my friends in BC who have the love of "Indian Motorcycles" Hello Dehran, Lisa, Jessi, Keith, Hazel, Ron and Mary.

Still some more from Niagra

So. to continue with Niagra Falls, here is Daniel at the top of the Canadian part of the falls. It really is so beautiful....

There were so many different ethnic people there. This really is a spot for the whole world to be amazed...

Funny, how when you leave this place that you realize that sooooo many people have travelled this path for so many years.
The tour guide (who was at least 28 years old) told us that he saw pic's of the basin of the falls in the winter, where the ice had formed on the top of the river basin, then with the mist from the fall, which would freeze with contact of the ice, had actually formed between 55 and 70 feet of ice. You just have to be amazed at this. Think about the fact that one story of a hotel is usually equal to 10 feet. So between 5.5 and 7 stories of a hotel....
We really did have a great day...I am glad I could share it with you. I am working on getting everyones emails into my hotmail account. I am sorry, I didn't know that it would be this hard...lol
I hope everyone is doing well....Miss you all
with the wind at our backs,
Shannon and Daniel

This is one amazing planet...

Here is a little for those of you who didn't know that I was actually a famous rock and roll guitarist.....LOL

This is from our trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. So much stuff to take in....

Lots of fun and it made me think of our friends....Mike and Lorraine and Sue and Wayne....you guys would still be there checking out all the great stuff....Les Paul originals ect....

We made it to New York...on the west side. Just a bit up from Buffalo. In a place called Grand Island. We are here to check out Niagra Falls.

We decided to take a tour with a company so we could get all the sites in in a short time....

We got to the park and went directly onto the boat company that has been "sailing" these waters since 1928. She is called the "maid of the mist" and she took us right into the mist of the canadian part of the falls. The horseshoe as they call it. It is the most amazing thing. You are sprayed with wonderfull mist from falls that are about 180' feet tall and land in a area full of turbulence of the most inspired blue. Light aqua blue, a little darker than the blue waters of glaciers. Clean and moist air....

I did make it through that without losing all my makeup...LOL

Up to the observation deck from there...see pic above

Then over to another part of the park to take a elevator down 150 or so feet that was "dug out" by "hand" to a spot called Cave of the Winds. This took us up some stairs to a spot that we were actually only 15 feet from the start of Bridal Veils Falls. (This is a fall that carries 1% of the total amount of water over the falls. The American Falls carries 9% and the Canadian Horeshoe Falls carries 90 %. In total the falls carry 750,000 gallons of water over in one second....this is one amazing planet. How lucky are we to be here????
